PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Coming in just below the Stealth RS’s, are the Stealth 85S Ice Skates by Easton. Being that they could easily be mistaken as a twin - not an evil one mind you - the Easton 85S’s combine many of the same high quality features as its older sibling, but bring their own game to the table.

Equipped with Molded Thermoformable Quarter Package, a mouth full we know, this simply means the boot is anatomically molded to start and can be baked to further form the boot to your ankles anatomy. In doing so, this lessens the negative space between your foot and the boot, ultimately decreasing the break in period and helping to prevent blisters.

As we said the 85S’s bring their own game to the table, lightweight injected componentry makes this possible. These skates are lighter than some competitors, giving you the competitive edge in the speed department. Along with being lightweight, the boot holds stiff providing sufficient ankle support. This aids you during quick stops, cutting and cornering, giving you the upper hand on breakaways or quickly digging out of a corner.

Adding to speed, the 85S immediately gives you a quick connection to the ice with low-profile outsoles featuring Dry Flow™. Not only does this outsole let the boot flex slightly with your foot, it also lets you feel every stride, corner, and cut straight from the ice to your feet. Dry Flow™ in the outsole is constantly working to keep your feet dry within the boot, ultimately keeping your foot in place rather than sliding within the boot because of moisture.

Speaking of moisture, we all know back to back game days can be your worst nightmare when your skates don’t dry quick enough. To take care of that Easton has equipped the 85S’s with a quick drying moisture management lining. This lining is specially designed to dry skates faster, which in the end gives you fresh skates to step into before game time and reduces the risk of blisters.

On the topic of comfort, Easton designed an anatomical tongue with integrated lace bite protection that fits snug against the front of your ankle protecting you from shots, slashes, and the ever annoying lace bite.

Identical to the RS’s, rounding out the 85S’s are the Razor Bladz II Holders, designed with optimal height on the heel helping you stay power stance ready, on top of Easton’s aggressive Elite Runners.

Like a younger brother the Stealth 85S’s follow in the footsteps of the RS, just at a more affordable price.

RATINGS & REVIEWS

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, but tough to break in This is about 1 year after I bought this skate, I sometimes feel tight, it might be my foot, but I can't tie too tight or I can't stand on my feet for more than 10 minutes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great performance and value Wow! I gave these a 5 because when you look at alternate brands and their price its a no brainer...What a great deal on these moderate to high performance skates. I played varsity hockey up to major midget age many years ago and now play men's beer league. I just came off the S11 which I really liked from a fit and performance perspective. Heat moulded and with yellow Superfeet (a must-have in any skate), blade profiling for the kind of position you play (if you play) and the right radius of grind these 85Ses are frankly amazing. I have a standard 10.5 D width foot with high instep, and fit it just fine...better than my old S11s actually. I like the vented composite sole, the razor blades ii blades and holders (tho' not a big fan of the goofy screws - loctite these!), the boot, low-profile and shaped toebox, and tongue tho' I do prefer the S11 tongue better. These just seem built better. My youngest son plays Major Bantam A and runs on Bauer x7.0 but they are getting very hard to find in his size...I will get him these 85Ses and save myself 200 - 350 bucks!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Better designs out there, but on sale good buy After 30 years of playing I retired and only coach. These skates replaced my previous skates. My foot is a D width (average) and fit fine in a CCM or Bauer D boot. These are my second Easton skates and in both Easton boots they run narrow to the point I'm having a longer break in period even after baking. The one "feature" I really dislike are the external screws in the tuuk that hold the blade in place. They fell out and are missing on the ice after the very first use. My advice is after you bake them is to ensure they are tight with 'blue' thread lock. I recommend this product only if purchased at a discount, not full retail. Keep an eye on those screws, you may lose them during a game.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good value when on sale The Easton Stealth 85s is my second pair of hockey skates. The only other pair I've owned has been the Bauer Vapor X3.0, which is a lower end skate, but has been a great skate for me. I was looking for something with more protection for my ankle and forefoot after taking a number of shots to my feet. After seeing the Easton Stealth line on sale, I decided to go with the 85s because of the tongue protection and the stiff, protective boot. I play adult rec league once or twice a week, and I help coach my kids' teams so I'm on the ice 2-5 hours per week, but I'm not a high-performance player. The padding of the boot is great. It felt great as soon as I put it on, but after sharpening and a first skate, I couldn't make it more than 45 minutes before the pain on the outsides of my feet became unbearable. I had the skates baked and it helped some, but not enough. I ended up having one of the boots punched out some and that helped even more. I've skated on them about 8-9 hours now and they're getting better every time. I don't have wide feet and I never had this problem with the Bauer Vapor skates, but each skate is different and this skate must run a little more narrow. I am probably going to bake the skates a second time to try to form them to my foot a little more. I got the skates because the Bauer X3.0's didn't offer enough protection from shots in the boot and tongue, but after playing earlier this week and taking one shot on the inside of the ankle, and one on the tongue, I was SO glad I bought these skates. The boot is stiff and protective and the guard on the tongue does it's job. As far as performance goes, this skate isn't as 'fast' as my Vapors. The runner is flatter and makes more contact with the ice, so there's a little more friction there. The increase in boot stiffness helps to counter act that though because I really feel the ice under my feet and feel very in control of my turns and skating. I may put the holders from my vapor skates on the Eastons to get the performance of the vapors with the stiffness and protection of the Eastons. In summary, the boot is stiff and offers good protection from shots. It's more narrow than the Bauer Vapor skates, and it's not as "fast" as the Vapor skates. I think this skate is a great value if you get it on sale. For $200, I think it's great. I wouldn't be as happy if I had paid full price. I would recommend these skates to a friend if they have narrow feet and get them on sale.

PRODUCT Q & A

How is the fit of the skate in comparison with the Easton Synergy skates? Is the fit fairly comparable or are they much different?

Asked by: Big Frank
Generally the "cut" of the boot is different. The Stealth is higher and the Synergy tends to be a little lower of a cut..
