As an Official Sponsor of the USA Hockey Grow the Game Award, associations are encouraged
to describe how they are growing the game in their communities. Creative and well-thought
out proposals that are easy to replicate and implement are evaluated with the three
top winners receiving 30, 20, and 10 Learn to Play sets of starter gear respectively
for their associations. Total Hockey and the Membership Department at USA Hockey
are committed to sharing these ideas around the country to help volunteers increase
participation in their local youth hockey programs.
American Development Model
ADM is a nationwide model supported by the NHL for successfully developing American
hockey players. The methodology considers the opportunity for youth programs to
increase the number of boys and girls playing hockey by ensuring every child has
the same chance to succeed. It is a set of guidelines specifically designed to help
kids reach their full potential. Through associations’ implementation of ADM,
kids learn to play the game by having fun with age appropriate skills and training.
Over time and in the proper environment, kids will develop and mature in skill and
desire, further refining their physical and mental outlook with the focus toward
eventually mastering the game. As an Official Sponsor of The American Development
Model, Total Hockey supports the goals of ADM which ultimately encourage boys and
girls to play, love and excel at hockey.
